Shocking moment Denmark’s Queen Mary hit by scooter

Footage has gone viral showing the alarming moment Denmark’s Queen Mary was hit by a scooter while visiting Greenland. See the video.

Denmark’s Queen Mary narrowly escaped serious injury after she was hit by a motorised scooter while on a royal visit to Greenland.

The Australian-born Danish royal was talking to a crowd of people in Nuuk when a black scooter struck the back of her right leg, earlier this month.

In footage of the incident that has gone viral, Queen Mary can be seen losing her balance and falling forward as the scooter makes impact.

Her security guards quickly stepped in to stop the scooter and check she was okay.

Queen Mary was then seen limping as she resumed her activities.

“I could see how much it hurt her, her eye watered immediately. It must hurt to be hit at that speed. The police immediately barricaded and removed her from the situation,” a witness said.

King Frederick was also nearby greeting fans when the incident happened, as were their children Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

The rider of the scooter, an elderly man, said “I do not know what happened”.

The rider said he wanted to hold out his hand towards the Queen hoping she would take it, but hit the accelerator instead, it has been reported.

Palace media said Queen Mary was not hurt in the incident. It was not thought to have disrupted the Danish royal visit to Greenland, which ended on July 6.
