Outspoken UK commentator Piers Morgan has taunted left-leaning celebrities such as Hugh Grant for “helping” Boris Johnson to a “landslide” victory in the UK election.

The outspoken TV host took to Twitter just minutes after the election exit poll tipped the Tories to win 368 seats.

In particular, he took aim at Hugh Grant and Alan Partidge star Steve Coogan.

“Congrats Hugh Grant & Steve Coogan – you helped get Boris a landslide,” Morgan wrote this morning.

The broadcaster then replied directly to Grant after he tweeted “there goes the neighbourhood”, saying, “No, there goes your credibility.”

“The British people listened to your democracy-wrecking garbage & told you to f**k off.”

Grant and Coogan have thrown their weight behind Labour this election.

Overnight, Coogan called Conservative voters “ignorant” and suggested Brexit-backers were “ill-informed”.

However, it appears Labour are heading for a drumming at the ballot box.

Since the exit poll results were announced, Morgan has since tweeted saying: “RIP Jeremy Corbyn’s political career. Britain stared radical socialism in the face and said: ‘Nah.’”

Now Mr Corbyn is facing a backlash within his party, with former Labour minister Alan Johnson hitting out at the hard-left leader and his support group, Momentum.

“Corbyn was a disaster on the doorstep. Everyone knew that he couldn’t lead the working class out of a paper bag. Now Jon has developed this Momentum group, this party within a party, aiming to keep the purity. The culture of betrayal goes on,” Mr Johnson said.

“You’ll hear it now, more and more over the next couple of days, as this little cult get their act together. I want them out of the party. I want Momentum gone. Go back to your student politics.”

Mr Morgan is clearly happy with the poll results, saying on Twitter that democracy was the winner.

“I’m happy the only party that campaigned to honour the result of the EU Referendum won,” he wrote. “And I say that as a Remainer. Democracy is the big winner tonight.

“This election was the 2nd EU Referendum – and Britain just voted to Leave even more enthusiastically. Those trying to flog the ridiculous ‘People’s Vote’ just got the People’s vote.”

Morgan also published a tweet mocking the famous “Ooooh Jeremy Corbyn” chant, set to the tune of Seven Nation Army.
