Iranians have flooded Tehran’s highways in a desperate bid to flee the capital, after US President Donald Trump issued a dramatic call for residents to “immediately” evacuate the city amid rising regional tensions.
Mr Trump warned residents to evacuate the city “immediately” as Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirms the US is moving forces to the Middle East.
“What a shame, and waste of human life,” Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”
Meanwhile, Mr Trump has been forced to leave the G7 early “because of what’s going on in the Middle East,” the White House has announced.
He has also requested that the national security council be prepared in the situation room as he returns from the summit.
“Because of what’s going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote on X.
