The family of former Melbourne schoolgirl Bianca Censori has reacted to the news that she tied the knot with controversial US rapper Kanye West in a surprise wedding.
Censori, 27, made international headlines after it was revealed the couple wed in a private ceremony.
A now-unpublished article on Hypebeast listed Censori as one of the “minds behind Yeezy Home”, West’s off-shoot architectural firm tasked with building social housing projects.
The sister of Ms Censori said it was a “very exciting” time for the family.
“It’s very exciting news for both my sister and the family but we choose to have
some privacy for the time being,” Angelina Censori said.
Relative Alyssia Censori added the family was “super happy for them both.”
The pair - approached separately for comment - declined to add anything further.
Censori is the current head of architecture at Yeezy, previously attended the Carey Baptist Grammar School at Kew, in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
According to Censori’s LinkedIn profile, she graduated from the elite school in 2012 before studying a Bachelor and Master of Architecture at University of Melbourne.
At the same time she launched a side venture called Nylons Jewellery, which she continued to oversee while she studied.
In an interview for iD in 2016, West’s new bride discussed the difficulty in balancing a burgeoning label and full-time study.
“I try keep my studies and Nylons fairly separate. I’m always thinking of both and am always inspired by both, but I separate them so they can grow separately,” she said.
“I do things for Nylons everyday, little things whether it be organising something or going and getting photos taken so it can grow while I’m still studying.
“With designs, as soon as I get an idea I try to get it made so even if it sits there for a couple of months I can release it without being constantly under the pump.”
The Herald Sun broke the news of Censori’s shock nuptials to her former grammar schoolmates. One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she did not know the talented designer very well but described her as a “quiet, normal girl”.
“Everyone’s freaking out,” she said.
“She and I were in much different circles … I didn’t even recognise her (in recent pictures).”
She said Censori showed off her athletic prowess on the soccer field on the student team.
‘Couldn’t even make this sh*t up’
In a bizarre twist Ms Censori originally hailed from the Melbourne suburb of Ivanhoe, according to the owner of College Dropout Burgers.
College Dropout Burgers is a burger shop located in Ivanhoe that attracted worldwide attention last year after West launched legal action against it.
Ms Censori’s new husband is suing the burger joint and its owner Mark Elkhouri in the Federal Court of Australia alleging misleading and deceptive conduct in that College Dropout Burgers has items on its menu named after songs on the artist’s 2004 album.
Among the rapper’s beefs is the name of the business, which he claims is deceptively similar to the name of his The College Dropout album.
West also wants Elkhouri to withdraw his trademark application for the name College Dropout Burgers.
Mr Elkhouri noted West’s strange attraction to Ivanhoe on his social media on Saturday evening and even offered his venue as a possible wedding reception venue for the performer and his new Aussie bride.
“I couldn’t even make this sh*t up,” he posted on the College Dropout Burgers Instagram with an image of Ms Censori’s face superimposed on to signage at the front of the business.
The signage had originally sported a cartoon bear design similar to West’s ‘Drop Bear’ logo.
The bear had been removed after West complained via his lawyers to Elkhouri in February and June last year.
“Congrats to @kanyewest for marrying an Ivanhoe native,” he continued.
“Is Bianca Censori now the face of Ivanhoe? #InsertLogoHere
“Must be something in the water (or burgers) here in Ivanhoe.
“Wedding reception here at College Dropout Burgers?? #BCoverload #CensoriOverload.”
He signed the post “Regards, Mark,” before adding a note in his Instagram stories that his lawyers had suggested he remove the cheeky social media tile.
He finished his post sending West “congratulations” on his nuptials.
From Collingwood to Los Angeles
The new Mrs West bares a striking resemblance to the rapper’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian. The former couple’s divorce was only finalised two months ago.
Censori went on to become a design consultant at Kelektiv in South Yarra and a student architect at Collingwood-based firm, DP Toscano Architects, from July 2017 to June 2020
She relocated to Los Angeles about two years ago where she signed on as an architectural designer for West’s brand before taking on her current role.
It is understood West’s new leading lady splits her time between Melbourne and Los Angeles.
It’s unclear how the newlyweds first met, though West briefly released a song titled Censori Overload in December – hinting at the new romance.
The track includes the lyric: “And The Bible said, ‘I can’t have any more sex til marriage’.”
TMZ first reported the pair married in a secret ceremony on Thursday, LA time. The two have been seen wearing wedding rings but no official marriage certificate has been filed.
West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian expressed shock after the news, posting cryptic messages on Instagram to “keep doing you”.
“I’m really in my quiet girl era, I don’t have much to say. Just much to do,” she posted, before adding later: “Just remember, the black sheep usually turns into a goat. Keep doing you. People who want to see you win, will help you win. Remember that.”
Censori has worked as an architectural designer at Yeezy for many years, TMZ reports.
After being a brunette for many years, she now dons a blonde bob.
Kardashian and West were married for six years. They share four children: daughter North, 9, son Saint, 7, daughter Chicago, 4, and son Psalm, 3.
The couple share joint custody of the kids after their divorce was finalised in November.
West will pay his former wife US$200,000 (A$286,500) a month in child support. He will also be responsible for half of their kids’ healthcare expenses not covered by insurance, as well as 50 per cent of their security and education costs, including tuition.
