Queen Camilla was royally thrilled as she was presented with a lookalike Barbie doll of herself, and joked that it made her look younger, saying “We should all have a Barbie”.
Camilla laughed that the one-off plastic doll made her look 50 years younger as she was presented with the Barbie at a Women Of The World event held at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday local time.
The Queen was presented with the specially designed toy, dressed in a replica royal blue outfit, in recognition of her work as president supporting the Women Of The World festival.
She examined the miniature version of herself during the event and chuckled, “it’s brilliant.”
“Thank you very much indeed. You’ve taken about 50 years off my life – we should all have a Barbie,” she said.
The royal, 76, hosted an International Women’s Day reception at Buckingham Palace, which was attended by actress Dame Helen Mirren, Mathilde, Queen of the Belgians, the Duchess of Gloucester and Spice Girl Mel B.
On International Day of the Girl in October 2023, the foundation launched their WOW Girls Festival Bus Tour which toured the country promoting gender equality before making its final stop at Buckingham Palace where the team was greeted by Queen Camilla.
Ahead of the engagement, WOW Global was given a rundown of Camilla’s outfit and hair style so they could accurately recreate her look for her Barbie.
Krista Berger, senior vice president of Barbie and Global head of dolls, had travelled from Los Angeles to present the Barbie complete with a blonde bouffant, and said afterwards: “We were just tickled that the Queen wanted to play Barbie.”
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “It is indeed a special Barbie gifted by the makers to HMQ in recognition of her role supporting the wow global festival as its President.
“You may recall that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth similarly had a Barbie made for her at the time of HM’s Platinum Jubilee.”
The late Queen Elizabeth II was immortalised as a Barbie in an ivory gown and blue riband adorned with decorations of order for her Platinum Jubilee.
In a speech Camilla retold the story of two suffragettes who smashed palace windows with stones in May 1914 and how the objects were kept, on the orders of Queen Mary, wife of King George V.
Holding up the stones, she said: “In 1914, I believe, they represented hope to the women who threw them, hope that, in the future, they would not be victims of their history, nor of the social and economic forces that were ranged against gender equality.
“Above all, they represented the hope that it was possible, as Christabel Pankhurst (daughter of Emmeline Pankhurst) said, ‘to make this world a better place for women’.
“Today, 110 years later, you have been invited into Buckingham Palace because you too represent hope for women in the present and in the future.”
CAR CRASHES INTO WINDSOR CASTLE
Royal aides were left stunned when a car smashed into the walls of Windsor Castle three days after a vehicle careered into the gates of Buckingham Palace.
Video footage showed a Volvo crumpled against the stone walls of the royal residence after the driver appeared to lose control of the wheel in the early hours of Tuesday morning local time.
A man was seen being treated on the ground. Two other cars were involved in the incident.
Police and ambulances closed off the road following the crash.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “Thames Street, Windsor is currently closed in both directions due to a road traffic collision. It is likely to remain closed for some time. Please find alternative routes if you can.”
On Saturday morning a motorist was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken to hospital after crashing his car into the gates of Buckingham Palace.
Witnesses heard a loud bang and CCTV footage showed armed police surrounding the driver who was on his knees and ordering him to “keep your hands on your head!”.
Workmen swiftly arrived at the Westminster palace in central London to fix the gates.
The gates, which date from 1911, were secured with scaffolding and a temporary wooden fence erected.
Police confirmed it was not being treated as terror related.
The man was later sectioned under the mental health act and has been released on bail.
