THIS is one spin cycle that's guaranteed to get the cobwebs out.

Peddling toward world record

Sixteen fitness fanatics and their leader Michael Aspinall are peddling their calories away at World Gym Toowoomba raising money for a worthy cause while trying to crack a new Guinness World Record for the longest static spin cycle class.

"The record is 27 hours so our team is going for 30 hours," explained World Gym Toowoomba fitness manager Carly Burr.

"They all have to start and finish together and at least 10 of them have to be there at the finish for the record.

"They can have a five minute break every hour but what they've decided to do and go for three hours and then have a 15-minute break.

"Michael is leading them and encouraging them along and they've been playing games and telling jokes to keep themselves entertained."

The spin cycle challenge is raising funds for children living with rare diseases.

"A lot of people have donated goods for the participants such as food, coffee and cool drinks and the families and friends come in an encourage the team," Ms Burr said.

For Mr Aspinall, the 30-hour challenge is good training for the Steve Waugh Foundation's annual Captain's Run next month.

The Captain's Run is a six-day on-road cycle tour and leadership program which raised funds for the Steve Waugh Foundation.
