Woman who stole Toowoomba taxi at knife-point jailed

SHE was arrested after police placed tyre deflation devices across the Warrego Highway near Gatton over which she drove the taxi.

She threatened to stab the taxi driver if he didn't hand over the keys, the court heard.

A WOMAN who held a knife to a Toowoomba taxi driver's throat before stealing his cab and wallet has been sentenced to three years in jail.

Tishana Simone Davidson, 23, had entered the cab called to a Rockville address about 11.15pm, December 19, Toowoomba District Court heard.

She threatened to stab the cabbie unless he handed over the keys, Crown prosecutor Jane Shaw said.

She had then driven off but stopped to cut wires to the car's GPS tracker before driving on toward Ipswich.

However, the cab company was able to track the taxi's movements by another tracking device and police using tyre deflation devices across the Warrego Highway near Gatton had brought the car to a stop.

Davidson had spent the ensuing 176 days in custody before appearing by prison video link to plead guilty before the Toowoomba court.

She also pleaded guilty to trying to break into the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre on July 26 while crying hysterically and asking to see an inmate "Kyle" , prompting Ms Shaw to remark that it was "unusual" for someone to try to break into a prison.

Her barrister Jessica Goldie told the court her client's offending only started about a year ago after she started using drugs.

This had been her client's first stint in prison, she said.

Judge Jennifer Rosengren sentenced Davidson to three years in jail but declared the 176 days as time already served and ordered she be released on parole on October 26 after having spent a total 10 months behind bars.
