Woman, two children killed in highway inferno

UPDATE: Police have revealed a 38-year-old woman and two children were the victims of last night's horror crash on the Warrego Hwy.

UPDATE: Police have revealed a 38-year-old woman and two children were the victims of last night's horror crash on the Warrego Hwy.

The children, both boys, were aged 9 and 13.

Initial information suggested the sedan the three victims were travelling in had been pulled up on the side of the highway.

It was returning to the roadway when it collided with the semi-trailer near the intersection of Forest-Hill Fernvale Rd.

The woman and the two boys died at the scene.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a 55-year-old man, was not physically injured.

The eastbound lanes of the Warrego Highway was closed for several hours.

Investigations are ongoing.

6AM: Horror struck on the Warrego Hwy last night when three people were killed when their car collided with a truck and burst into flames.

The crash occurred when a Nissan Pulsar sedan travelling eastbound appeared to turn in front of a semi-trailer near the intersection of the highway and Forest Hill-Fernvale Rd at Glenore Grove.

Officer-in-charge from Laidley station Senior Sergeant Jim McDonald said the vehicle was engulfed by 1.5 metre flames and little could be done to save the occupants.

He said police were making investigations to determine their identities.

"The truck driver has done a great job, but unfortunately the incident has occurred and we've got three people who've lost their lives," he said.

Sgt McDonald urged all members of the public to take absolute care when driving on the roads.

"If you make one mistake when you're driving a vehicle it could cost yours or someone else's life as we've seen here tonight," he said. 

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

EARLIER: Three people have been killed in a horror crash on the Warrego Hwy east of Toowoomba.

All victims were travelling in a Nissan Pulsar which collided with a truck as it attempted to cross the highway at the Fernvale Rd intersection.

The crash happened about 6.45pm at Glenore Grove.

BREAKING: A motorist has been killed and at least two others seriously injured in a horror two-vehicle crash on the Warrego Hwy east of Toowoomba.

The crash happened about 6.45pm at Glenore Grove at the intersection of the Warrego Hwy and Fernvale Rd.

It is believed to have occurred as one vehicle attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Emergency services are still on scene. Diversions are in place.
