Will Brown set to take the runway at the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon

A sporting celebrity and homegrown hero is hitting a racetrack of a different kind of track for the upcoming Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon.

It’s almost that time of year where the community and visitors from far and wide descend on the Toowoomba region with their sneakers laced and ready.

Runners will prepare to take their mark at the 2025 Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport Marathon, joined by a special member of the community who is used to burning rubber, just the tyre kind.

This year the beloved event will take place on the runway of Wellcamp Airport, with celebrity V8 supercar driver and homegrown hero Will Brown gearing up for the Runway Mile and Grand Central 5km track.

The superstar, who took out the 2024 Supercars Championship for Triple Eight Race Engineering, is looking forward to a weekend in his hometown.

“It’s not every day you get to run a mile on a runway and the opportunity to test myself on a fast and flat 5km course around the airport will be a great challenge,” Brown said.

“I’m looking forward to catching up with some locals and visitors to our beautiful region and encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the atmosphere and action of a major event, cheer on the runners and have some fun at the airport for the afternoon.”

The 2024 event saw almost 2000 participants enter Toowoomba Sports Grounds on May 5, after a painstaking five-year-long wait for its return. 

Events Management Queensland chief executive Ben Mannion said they couldn’t be happier to hear the news of the V8 superstar would be taking part in the new events at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.

“We’ve added the very unique opportunity to run where few have run before with the Runway Mile, the Runway Relay and the Grand Central 5km to open the event up to everyone and cater for all ages and abilities,” Mr Mannion said.
