A TOOWOOMBA developer says Toowoomba Second Range Crossing workers' camps are a good thing for the region.
Lee Bermingham says they provide work for locals and a range of other benefits.
His company Qantac develops camps across the state and specialises in reusing and recycling accommodation.
The group has won approval for a workers' camp in Oakey and says although they often receive negative publicity, they actually benefit people in the area.

"These camps employ up to 35 people in cleaning, landscaping, maintenance and in the kitchens," he said.
"A lot of people are employed in local services like plumbers and electricians."
Mr Bermingham said the example of Mackay was worth noting.
"The government was pressuring companies to put people into private houses, which sends rent up enormously.
"It forced people out of the market and led to labour shortages of mechanics and hairdressers who had moved on.
"Having people who are going to be in a town for three or six months doesn't always warrant generating extra housing, it just looks good for 10 minutes."
