TOOWOOMBA high school students were some of the hundreds of people around the region who submitted names for bridges and infrastructure on the Toowoomba Bypass.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads last year called for public submissions on what parts of the bypass should be called, and as part of that, encouraged schools to run programs for students to come up with names.
Harristown State High School junior secondary head of department Liam Holcombe said the school's Year 8 extension civics class submitted several names to the Department of Transport for consideration.
"They were actually given an opportunity as part of their assessment to either name the whole range crossing or to participate in the process of naming some of the specific features,” he said.
"Once they chose what they wanted to name, they did research into local figures and significant people and came up with lots of difference ideas.”
Mr Holcombe said the student's name suggestions included naming something after police officer Brett Forte, Aboriginal warrior Multuggerah and bush nurse Sister Elizabeth Kenny, among others.
Several of the student's suggestions have been chosen for pieces of infrastructure at the Warrego Highway west interchange and Gore Highway interchange, with Department of Transport and Main Roads expected to release those names this weekend.
