Perth man Stephen Ingram has died hiking in the Swiss Alps

The body of an Australian man has been discovered by emergency services after his colleagues reported him missing when he failed to show up for work.

The heartbroken family of an Australian man who died hiking solo in the Swiss Alps has paid tribute to their “beloved brother” saying he died doing something he loved.

The body of Perth man Stephen Ingram, 33, was discovered by emergency services conducting an aerial search on Tuesday.

It is understood Mr Ingram died when he slipped on ice and fell on Stockhorn Mountain in Switzerland.

His colleagues reported him missing when he did not show up to work the previous day, The West Australian reported.

His sister Lisa Hegarty told The West his friends broke into his apartment and accessed his laptop to try and pinpoint his location.

“Every single weekend, if he wasn’t out conquering some mountain, he was thinking about it and planning his next trip,” she told the newspaper.

“He had an amazing bunch of friends in Geneva and Australia that shared his passion — if they weren’t hiking, they were skiing.

“He was always ready for the next challenge and absolutely lived life to the fullest.”

Mr Ingram moved to Switzerland in 2018 where he worked as an agricultural analyst for COFCO International, according to LinkedIn.

His sister Tara Southworth thanked everyone who reached out about her “beloved brother” saying he was a big part of everyone’s lives.

“Stephen has passed away while hiking in Switzerland on Sunday,” she said.

“We want to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts, especially Stephen’s community of friends in Switzerland, who were tireless in their support with helping us find him.

“As they say, the brightest candle burns the fastest.”

Photos on Mr Ingram’s Facebook account show he was a keen mountaineer who loved the outdoors with endless photos of the Alps.

Many friends paid tribute to the keen mountaineer saying he was a force of life who did what he love right up until the last.
