Ever-outspoken Independent MP, Alex Douglas, said Sunday's public open day was asking for trouble in light of recent domestic terrorist scares.

"There's every possibility that this insecure airport right next door to the Oakey Airport Army Airbase and the Borneo Military Barracks currently locked down could be used by terrorists, particularly with the influx of dignitaries for the G20 meeting in November," he said.

"Is Campbell Newman's LNP Government or the Federal Coalition Government taking this terrorist threat seriously or are we seeing different rules to help different mates?

"The new airport and the military now share airspace after 40 per cent of the military airspace was handed over to a private millionaire developer which adds to the terrorism risk."

Mr Douglas said the airport's security appeared to be "alarmingly low".

"If ISIL is prepared to abduct random Australians and execute them on the spot, why wouldn't they take advantage of a major facility right next to all new $46million MRH-90 helicopters, our blackhawks, tiger helicopters and our military staff?"

Wagners chairman John Wagner said the claims were the nonsensical ramblings of a man chasing publicity.

"It's nothing but a political beat-up," he said.

"We've taken advice from the Federal authorities and we will have a serious police presence on the day, which we are paying for.

"We have our own security people above and beyond that.

"And really, it is a construction site at the moment. It won't be an airport until late-October."

A crowd of 30,000 is expected to visit the airport on Sunday.

"It's all shaping up well. We believe we have the traffic sorted this time, compared to last year," Mr Wagner said.

"It's the last chance people will get to see an airport before it has been commissioned and locked."
