Wagners has an eye for opportunity

OUR SAY: The latest frontier for Wagners is evidence of something universal to growing conglomerates: the ability to see opportunities.

OUR SAY: WAGNERS began in 1989 in Toowoomba.

The company's website says the business "started with a small site in South Street Toowoomba comprised of one concrete batching plant with a capacity of 50 cubic metres per hour, six agitator trucks and 18 employees."

In the space of one generation, the family has created a global construction empire.

The success of the Wellcamp airport added another string to their business bow: aviation.

As Wagners chairman Denis Wagner puts it, these days "that's what we do - we build airports".

Today Anton Rose reports on the group's latest plans; that they are in talks with mining giant Adani over the construction of the Carmichael Coal Mine airport.

The development builds on their aspirations to construct western Sydney's Badgerys Creek airport.

The latest frontier for Wagners is evidence of something universal to growing business conglomerates: the ability to see opportunities for expansion.

While the rest of Queensland was stuck in the reeds politicking and protesting the Carmichael mine, Wagners saw an opening.

And acted.
