Toowoomba’s best plumber is Brendan Coonan Plumbing after topping The Chronicle’s online poll

Plumbers are every day heroes which is why we want to showcase the region’s best in the trade. Here’s who the public voted as Toowoomba’s best plumbers.

When Brendan Coonan was just 15-years-old, he began working for the late Brian Ball – a well-respected Toowoomba plumber who he said taught him everything he knows.

“Brian was just one of those guys who was always happy, friendly and a real gentleman, so whenever you went to work you were always in a good mood,” Mr Coonan said.

“He taught me a lot business-wise and about the importance of having a strong working ethic, but my mum and dad always instilled that growing up so that was never a problem for me.

“I was Brian’s 13th apprentice, but I was part of a pretty long list of young plumbers he put through town.”

Mr Coonan, who is the owner of Brendan Coonan Plumbing and Gasfitting, has three decades of experience in the trade – more than half of which he has spent running his own business.

The well-versed tradie was voted Toowoomba’s best plumber by readers in The Chronicle’s online poll this month, with Mr Coonan expressing his gratitude to his clients and team.

“A lot of my client base have been there for 25 years … that’s Toowoomba for you – we have a very loyal community here, but you also only get that support if you do a great job,” he said.

“My wife Christine has been a huge support over the years, and the three guys working for me are a great bunch of blokes.”

Despite his around-the-clock schedule and jobs which anyone with a weak stomach would struggle to complete, Mr Coonan said he had always loved being a plumber.

“In our game it’s not really a nine-to-five job because a burst pipe waits for no one,” he said.

“I love all the problem-solving involved, diversity of the jobs and meeting all kinds of different people … I really can’t complain.”

Hundreds of residents nominated and voted for Toowoomba’s best plumber with more than 60 finalists battling it out for the ultimate title.
