When Amy Hoang and her husband first moved to Australia, they could not speak English, left their entire support network behind and had to completely start over.

Originally from Vietnam, the couple moved in 2006 and enrolled at university where Ms Hoang completed a Bachelor of Agriculture – but little did she know fate had other plans.

After missing a creative outlet Ms Hoang decided to become a qualified nail technician instead and opened her own salon Bellarose Nails more than a decade ago.

“It was really hard to start with because it was a whole new world but I soon fell in love with nail art,” Ms Hoang said.

“I feel like I have found my home and talent now.”

Now aged 39, the business owner and mum of two was voted Toowoomba’s best nail salon by readers in The Chronicle’s online poll last month.

The popular business which has continued to expand over the years now employs seven staff members.

“From perfectly achieving a difficult nail design to creating deep connections with clients, there are many fulfilling moments in the life of a nail technician,” Ms Hoang said.

“I have made so many friends through my business and I feel like I am part of their lives – they share with me their happiest and saddest stories.

“It’s so rewarding to be part of a bride’s special day or help someone relax after a loss or stressful time.”
