Rubbish tossed into NT river from Iron Bridge on Gunn Point Road

A video has emerged showing people dumping bags of rubbish into the Howard River from the old Iron Bridge near Gunn Point Road.

The footage, which was sent to this publication, has sparked anger among locals and prompted calls for tougher action on illegal dumping.

Towards the end of the video, a white van with “Limitless NT” branding can be seen.

However, Limitless NT has strongly denied any involvement, stating the vehicle is not owned by the business but was used for advertising.

“Limitless NT and its employees were not in any way involved in this act,” the company said in a statement.

“As soon as the video was brought to our attention, we immediately took action, demanding our logo be removed from the van.

“We would never act in any way that would cause harm to the public or environment.”

Illegal dumping remains a persistent problem in the Northern Territory, particularly in rural areas.

The Litchfield Council, which oversees waste management in the region, acknowledged the issue but said its ability to penalise offenders was limited.

“Council receives reports of illegal dumping across our municipality, often in the same locations,” a council spokesperson said.

“Unfortunately, many of these areas are Crown land, which complicates enforcement.”

There are three waste transfer stations in the area.

“There is no excuse for this,” the council spokesperson said.

“Ratepayers who do the right thing end up footing the bill for these clean-ups.”

To combat the problem, the council is rolling out a new system in March that will allow residents to dispose of bulky waste — such as mattresses, tyres, and fridges—at the Humpty Doo Waste Transfer Station free of charge.
