The remains of Brunswick teenager Isla Bell were found in a rubbish tip in Melbourne’s southeast.
The Herald Sun has been told the gruesome discovery was made at a rubbish dump in Dandenong.
Two men have been charged over the death of the 19-year-old, police announced early Wednesday morning.
Ms Bell was last seen leaving her home about 6pm on October 4.
It is believed police are investigating whether the body of the teenager was placed in a household rubbish bin after her death.
Police believe it was then taken away on a routine rubbish collection.
Missing persons squad detectives were able to track that collection and recover Ms Bell’s remains, which are yet to be formally identified, on Tuesday.
Police also scoured a commercial truck parked outside a property in Mulgrave as part of the investigation.
Forensic investigators were seen probing the vehicle, bagging evidence in brown paper bags and combing a home along Wanda St at about 7pm on Tuesday.
Dressed in blue forensics suits, members took photos of a tarp and a series of clear containers outside the house.
The blinds were pulled closed at the single storey brick home as investigators walked through the property.
No marked police cars were seen at the home.
Police arrested three men on Tuesday after executing search warrants at two properties in Bentleigh East and Mulgrave.
A 53-year-old St Kilda man has since been charged with murder, while a 57-year-old Hampton man has been charged with assisting an offender.
A 63-year-old Mulgrave man has been released pending further enquiries.
The men are expected to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Days after Ms Bell vanished, her mother Justine Spokes, 42, made an impassioned plea to the community to help find her daughter.
“My girl is missing and dearly missed,” Ms Spokes wrote on social media.
“She leaves an impression, she’s hard to forget. She has a fighting spirit, sometimes it’s loud and sometimes it’s soft, always enduring.
“We’re here for you bub.”
