A barber, who was stabbed to death at a popular Geelong party strip, has been remembered as a “ripper bloke” who had the world at his feet.

A young Corio man, who was stabbed to death at a popular party strip, has been remembered as a “ripper bloke” who had the world at his feet.

The Herald Sun can reveal Jayme “Chugs” Sykes, 20, who is a well-known Geelong barber, died after a stabbing on Little Malop St early on Sunday morning.

Homicide Squad detectives rushed to the scene and found him with a stab wound.

Investigators believe he sustained the injury during an altercation nearby.

He was rushed to Geelong hospital in a critical condition where he later died.

It is understood two other men allegedly involved in the altercation self-presented at a hospital and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

The Herald Sun has been told there were “extremely” emotional scenes at Geelong hospital on Sunday morning, with security on high alert.

Dozens of heartfelt tributes from devastated family and friends have poured in for Jayme on social media, saying he was a “true legend” that was “gone too soon”.

Family member Mitch said on Instagram: “I’ll love you forever mate. I love you brother”.

Jayme’s close friend Jake said: “Rest In Peace Chugs you were there for me through thick and thin, one of my best mates.”

“I can’t believe that it has to end so soon, love you more than anything brother till we meet again,” he wrote on Facebook.

Another friend wrote: “You lit up every room bro. RIP Chugs, gone too soon”.

Other friends said he was a “ripper bloke” and that they would be “forever grateful” for their memories of him.

Memories of Jayme, including photos and videos, have also been shared across social media, which shows his love for cars and motorbikes.

According to his Instagram business page, the 20-year-old was a barber for more than three years.

Forensic teams were at the scene on Sunday morning as police directed foot and vehicle traffic away from the area.

Blood stains could be seen near the intersection of Little Malop and La Trobe streets and outside the NDIS offices.

Paramedics confirmed they treated a man in his 20s for upper body injuries.

They said he was taken to Geelong hospital in a critical condition.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown and investigations remain ongoing.
