Three new waterfront towers worth more than $520m will be built at Docklands after being approved by the state government.

The government will on Tuesday announce two separate planning permits by development giant Lendlease have been approved for the Collins Wharf precinct, near Marvel Stadium.

The developments will see two 28-storey buildings with 349 and 375 apartments, and a 16-storey building with 191 apartments constructed.

Planning Minister Sonya Kilkenny approved the towers that will house 915 homes, with more than 25,000 sqm of floor space.

“Building more homes in established suburbs like Docklands, means more young people have more opportunity to rent or buy a place that’s directly connected to public transport,’’ she said.

The development includes 289 one-bedroom apartments, 486 two-bedroom apartments, 103 three-bedroom apartments and 37 four-bedroom apartments.

It comes after Ms Kilkenny recently approved a planning permit amendment for a $350 million development to build more than 700 new homes on the Harbour Esplanade.

Once completed, Collins Wharf will have six buildings with nearly 2,000 homes – including a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments.

A neighbouring public park with more than 1,500 sqm of open space including a large central lawn surrounded by a terraced timber lounge overlooking the Yarra River has also been approved.

The three towers will take the total number of major Collins Wharf developments to six.

Lendlease completed its “No. 1 Collins Wharf” development in 2019 and has started construction on a second, “Regatta”, which is tipped to open in 2026.

The third, “Ancora” is scheduled for completion in 2027.

Lendlease development executive director Daniel Dugina said there was strong demand for homes in the area.

“Collins Wharf reflects our commitment to deliver high-quality housing in prime Melbourne locations and this approval enables over 915 new homes and public spaces to complete this highly sought after precinct,’’ he said.

“The approval of the final stage of Collins Wharf will help support the ongoing demand we are experiencing in the area, as buyers seek opportunities to live near some of the world’s best food, arts, sport and entertainment in Melbourne while enjoying a waterfront lifestyle.”

Towers in the Collins Wharf precinct will have uninterrupted views of Victoria Harbour towards the city or Yarra River to Port Phillip Bay.
