A 15-year-old boy accused of holding a machete to the throat of another teenager at a suburban McDonald’s is back in the community after he was granted bail.
Graphic footage is circulating showing a schoolboy having a huge machete shoved in his face in the bathrooms of the fast food joint at Truganina on Monday.
He appears to have been forced to bend down for the teenager as the blade of a machete is held to his throat before he is struck with it several times.
That boy, wearing a blue shirt, was also allegedly filmed punching on with another boy moments before or after the machete was produced.
Vision of the Dohertys Rd alleged assault was then posted online and widely circulated.
Police this week moved to arrest four youths, all aged just 15.
One of those was hit with a series of criminal charges.
Two other boys were issued cautions on Thursday.
“During the incident a machete is alleged to have been produced,” police said in a statement.
“One of the boys has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle, false imprisonment, produce child abuse material, assault with a weapon and possessing a controlled weapon.
“He was bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
“A second boy is expected to be charged on summons.
“A further two boys aged 15-years-old (...) were arrested on 29 May.
“They were issued cautions.”
The Department of Education said it was an “unacceptable” incident and did not reflect the values of the boys’ school – which cannot be made public.
“Despite the event taking place away from the school and outside school hours, any form of violence within our school community is entirely unacceptable,” a spokesperson said.
“This incident does not reflect the safe and supportive culture at the school or the behaviour of the vast majority of students.
“When incidents occur, we work closely with the students, their families and appropriate authorities to ensure these matters are properly investigated and appropriate disciplinary actions taken.”
The alleged assault occurred just days before a statewide ban on the sale of machetes was introduced.
Several stores across Melbourne have continued selling the weapons after Wednesday’s midday deadline, as revealed by the Herald Sun this week.
Machetes will be banned across the state from September 1.
