Victoria Police said the public wasn’t in any danger.

“Police are currently negotiating with a man on Liberty Parade in Heidelberg West,” police said in a statement.

“The man barricaded himself inside a property about 7.20am.

“There is no threat to members of the community.”

It is not known what incident led to the cops being called to the property.

A female officer with a megaphone could also be heard relaying messages to the man.

“Maybe you have had a really bad day,” she said at one stage.

“We are only here to help.

“We can see you walking around the house. Come outside now and end this on your terms.”

Other emergency services were also on standby with paramedics waiting on the street with a stretcher.

Dog squad was also on ready and waiting about 50m from the front of the house.

The man ended up exiting the house about 10.45am, more than three hours after the start of the incident.

He walked calmly to waiting police where he put his hands on the fence to be handcuffed, before being led to a police vehicle.

The man, a 49-year-old Heidelberg West man, was not believed to live at the property.

It is believed he was known to the occupants who weren’t in the home at the time of the stand off with police.
