A boutique Melbourne construction group is being investigated by the building regulator over a slew of “serious allegations” including dangerous and shoddy work.
The Victorian Building Authority issued a warning to consumers on Thursday morning, revealing they were investigating Truganina-based Baba Building Group as well as its associated entities including Windsor Homes.
“The VBA is gathering evidence into a range of serious allegations against this builder,” VBA chief executive Anna Cronin said.
This included claims about not building to the permit, non-compliant and defective works and assisting homeowners to occupy incomplete and potentially unsafe homes.
Ms Cronin said the regulator had ordered the builder and several plumbers back to rectify non-compliant work at sites in Clayton, Officer, Tarneit and Truganina.
She said the VBA had “addressed any immediate safety concerns”.
“If these claims are substantiated the VBA won’t hesitate to use its full suite of powers to hold those responsible to account,” she said.
Baba Building is run by sole director Dheeraj Sandala, documents lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission show.
The company, which has been running since 2014 out of Truganina in Melbourne’s west, describes itself online as a “boutique new home builder”.
“Baba Building Group is known as a trusted company that helps you to carve your dream house,” their website states.
“We specialise in customisation and design flexibility, allowing the client to make the changes they require to suit their families requirements and lifestyle and to construct within budget, within time frame, and with the quality to last for generations.”
As well as custom home building, the group says they complete house extensions, custom landscaping and concreting, interior decoration, electric upgrades and kitchen and bath renovations.
Baba Building Group was contacted for comment.
