A man banned from owning guns before allegedly firing shots at two cars and threatening to kill another person has been charged by police.
The Craigieburn man, 37, was taken down by heavily armed police in a suburban car park late on Thursday night bringing his alleged wild crime spree throughout the day to an end.
A woman was allegedly assaulted by a man at a home in Essendon North before she was rushed to hospital with serious injuries about 7.50am that morning.
Armed crime detectives say the man and the Essendon North woman, 27, are known to each other.
Bullets were later fired at two vehicles nearby just over an hour later.
Police say shots were fired at a car on the Tullamarine Freeway in Glenroy and another vehicle on Pascoe Vale Rd in Jacana about 9.15am.
No one was injured in that pair of shootings.
A Roxburgh Park man, 38, then took himself to a hospital in Coburg with a single gunshot wound.
It is not yet known what part of the city the Roxburgh Park man was shot.
“The exact circumstances are still being established, however police believe this is also linked to this series of incidents,” police said in a statement.
The Special Operations Group, who deal with potentially armed and dangerous offenders, were then called to a carpark about 9.50pm on Thursday night.
They successfully arrested a 37-year-old Craigieburn man in a Glenroy Rd car park and seized a gun.
He was on Saturday hit with a series of charges including threatening to kill, theft of motor vehicle, prohibited person using a firearm, discharge firearm at a vehicle and trafficking cocaine.
He was also charged with intentionally causing serious injury, common law assault, contravene intervention order, driving while disqualified and dealing with proceeds of crime.
He was due to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday night.
It was not the first time bullets have been fired on a busy road in Jacana recently.
Two men were charged last month after a man was sprayed with bullets at a set of traffic lights on the M80 Ring Rd in the middle of the day in May.
The 51-year-old victim was sitting in his car at the lights before at least one of the pair allegedly shot him multiple times about 12pm.
Police alleged it was an attempt to murder an illicit tobacco syndicate rival.
