Man struck with machete in terrifying St Kilda carjacking

A man was struck with a machete during a carjacking at the Carlisle St and Barkly St intersection on Sunday night.

A man has been struck in the head with a machete in a terrifying armed carjacking in St Kilda.

The man, 39, was hit in the head with the weapon after refusing to hand over the keys to his car.

Emergency services were called to the incident near the busy intersection of Carlisle St and Barkly St at about 9pm on Sunday.

Investigators said the carjackers — a man and a woman — approached the victim and demanded his car keys before assaulting him.

They then fled on foot, with police searching the area but unable to locate either offender.

The victim, a 39-year-old St Albans man, was taken to the Alfred Hospital with non-threatening upper body injuries.

Police said the male offender was caucasian with brown hair and a blonde mullet and was seen in an all-black outfit.

The female offender had dark hair and was wearing a white hoodie with a black puffer vest, branded Hoodrich, and black pants.

No arrests have been made and the incident remains ongoing.
