A man accused of breaking into a woman’s eastern suburbs home before allegedly raping her has been arrested while trying to board an international flight.

A man accused of raping a woman in her eastern suburbs home was arrested trying to leave the country on Tuesday.

Sex crimes detectives allege a 32-year-old man forced his way into the woman’s Lilydale home about 4.30am on Sunday before sexually assaulting his 49-year-old alleged victim.

He was arrested by authoroties at Melbourne Airport on Tuesday morning while trying to board an international flight.

The man has since been charged with rape, threats to kill, aggravated burglary, intentionally cause injury and criminal damage.

The accused rapist was due to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
