Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson are making their first appearance in Melbourne on Friday since their show started syndicating here in April last year.
The powerhouse duo who have so far failed to make an impact with audiences are broadcasting live from St Kilda West beach with a $5 million cash prize on offer.
“This has been a long time coming,’’ Henderson said.
“We always wanted to do something and we wanted to make it worthwhile so $5 million is such a huge giveaway. I love that we’ll be in St Kilda around the corner from where I lived 20 odd years ago.”
Henderson said she is willing to play the waiting game and hasn’t lost faith in achieving a ratings spike given Melburnians are prone to “heavily sampling”.
“The thing with Melbourne is I have an incredible amount of patience and that’s required for Melbourne,’’ she said.
“I do believe the way it will increase is word of mouth, people were sampling it at the beginning and I think the show sounds so good at the moment and this is what I’ve always based it off. I have done national shows before and I see it with the phones.
“When you see this huge influx coming through, it comes up where people call from, and now we are absolutely flooded with Melbourne callers. For me that’s always a marker of doing well. It often takes a while to translate and I know from what I’m seeing, it is absolutely growing in Melbourne.”
Even though the Kyle and Jackie O show re-strategised to include less smut off the back of a new marketing campaign, the first ratings survey returned a 5.1 per cent share, just 0.1 points up from the previous survey.
Both Henderson and Sandilands will head off on holiday after Friday’s show — Henderson is taking daughter Kitty to Italy and Sandilands is travelling to Thailand.
The show will also feature performances by Amy Shark and 2025 Australian Idol winner Marshall Hamburger.
