Australian tennis ace Arina Rodionova has announced her separation from husband, former AFL footballer Tyrone Vickery.
The couple went public with the sad news on the day Rodionova, a former Australian number one player, left the country following her Australian Open campaign.
In a bizarre video shared to social media, the pair revealed the news while Vickery clutched a banana.
“Hey guys, we have a quick announcement to make,’’ Rodionova said.
“We’re getting a divorce, we’ve been separated for about a year, friends and family know but we just wanted to let the wider community know about the situation.”
Vickery then added: “We’re good with each other, we wish each other the best, thanks for the support.”
At the end of the short video Rodionova tries to awkwardly grab the banana and the couple laugh.
She captioned the post: “Life happens. We have lots of love for each other but sometimes it’s just not enough.”
Rodionova reached a career high ranking in February last year of 97 and was at one point Australia’s top ranked female player.
The Russian born athlete married Vickery, who played for Richmond and Hawthorn, in December 2015.
She alluded to tough times when she posted to Instagram on New Year’s Eve: “Peace out 2024 you will not be missed. 1 star review. Wouldn’t recommend.”
