Those hoping to strike it rich playing Saturday Lotto will have to fork out more each week thanks to a 10c per game price rise coming into effect on Sunday.
The 10c extra per game — not per ticket — will see a regular Saturday Lottery 12 game ticket price jump from $10.10 to $11.50, while the maxi 50 game ticket will jump to $47.80 from the previous $42.10.
The price hike comes to help cover an increase in prize money with Division 1 jumping from $5m to $6m, with there also being more to share for winners across division two to six.
Also to ease the price hike burden, The Lott has added a new “mini” 10-game quickpick which will be 50c cheaper than the previous 12 game ticket price at $10.10.
General manager of public relations at The Lottery Corporation Matt Hart said the plan to up the cost was a long thought out that was driven by customer desire.
“The decision to change prices is never made lightly and has been informed by research with customers who’ve overwhelmingly told us they want the chance to win bigger prizes more often,” he said.
“Saturday Lotto has a reputation for creating more millionaires than any other Australian lottery game, and we certainly hope the boosted estimated division one prize pool each Saturday, from $5m to $6m, continues to deliver just that.
“This price change, the first in five years, will also enhance the prize distribution across all divisions, meaning bigger prize pools for divisions two to six.
“Importantly, there have been no changes to the way people play Lotto or the chances of winning a prize.”
All other lottery games including Weekday Windfall, Oz Lotto, Powerball and Set for Life will remain the same however Lucky Lotteries will also see a price increase.
