An ex-horse trainer accused of sickening animal neglect has started a GoFundMe page admitting she cannot afford to feed her pets.
Maxine Fraser, who also uses the surname Galpin, is alleged to have up to 80 animals on her Mount Eliza property in need of desperate help.
The post, headlined ‘Save These Horses and Goats. drought emergency relief’, pleads for $2400 in funding.
“Hello hopefully you can help me with any availability for feed,” the post reads.
“The last seven years have been extremely hard as costs associated with environmental impact and influence of drought emergency have paid the toll.”
The rambling post continued: “Their (sic) has been no support structure except what has been precariously provided by myself.
“Feeding has hit crisis the cost of Bale’s of hay has risen 600 % if you are lucky enough to find any.
“People who critic’s choice have no idea about the hardship of farmers and can be very cruel inhuman and insensitive.”
The page was created on Tuesday last week and has not received a single cent in fundraising.
Disturbingly, drone footage above Ms Fraser’s property appears to show carcasses at several burn sites.
Ms Fraser has horses, dogs and goats on the land.
It is understood the RSPCA is unable to seize the animals due to a loophole in one of the provisions in the 39-year-old law called Prevention for Cruelty of Animals Act 1986.
Despite years of campaigning to have the legislation changed, and the state government issuing a consultation paper in 2023, nothing has been done.
So the RSPCA must wait for Ms Fraser to freely hand them over.
The animal welfare organisation cannot intervene because Ms Fraser has entered into a management care plan in response to concerns regarding how she has cared for animals on her property. It would effectively mean the RSPCA would be stealing the horses, committing a criminal offence, if they seized the animals.
But locals, fed up with the inaction, say the animals are only getting basic feed because they monitor her Mount Eliza property daily.
In one fiery outburst, Ms Fraser is videoed confronting two protesters.
“You should all be ashamed of yourselves. There’s a drought. $350 for a bale of hay. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, you all should,” she ranted.
Ms Fraser then comes up close to one protester and points a finger in her face, saying: “Am I ashamed? Not at all. What I’ve endured in this life, you wouldn’t have the boots or the guts to do it. Look at youse.
“You want to save the horses – what, having their heads chopped off? That’s what you are threatening to do. 100 per cent. I’ve heard it all, I’ve heard it all,” she screams.
The protesters have vowed not to give up until the animals have been rescued.
