Opposition Leader Brad Battin has poached Melbourne TV reporter Georgia Simpson to join his media team.
Ms Simpson - currently a journalist at 10 News First, who has previously worked at Sky News and Channel 7 - will serve in a senior media adviser role.
Mr Battin is finalising the new-look team that he plans to take to the 2026 election, and is understood to have been on the hunt for a senior journalist to deliver his media strategy.
Ms Simpson, who has been a journalist for almost eight years and worked in marketing prior to that, will work under Mr Battin’s director of media and communications, Dominic Raff, a conservative Liberal figure.
It’s understood the duo will be joined by two other media advisers and a junior communications staffer.
Ms Simpson, 32, will play a key role in building and strengthening relationships with political journalists and the broader media sector.
Alongside Mr Raff, she will be in charge of crafting Mr Battin’s key messages and driving his media strategy.
The new-look team replaces the four media advisers who were employed throughout John Pesutto’s leadership. They all resigned following the leadership spill.
Former media director Alex Woff, who worked under Mr Pesutto, Matthew Guy and Michael O’Brien, was offered to stay on in a senior media capacity but declined the role.
The three media advisers who worked under Mr Woff were all terminated this month. It’s understood two were offered positions but they also declined to stay on.
