Black ice causes 12 vehicle crash on Western Fwy at Gordon
One person has been flown to hospital in a serious condition following a 12-vehicle crash on the Western Fwy in Gordon, between Ballan and Ballarat.

A 59-year-old man is in a serious condition following a 12-vehicle crash on the Western Fwy in Gordon, between Ballan and Ballarat.
Multiple Ballarat-bound lanes were closed as emergency services worked to clear the major road accident.
Victoria Police confirmed the 59-year-old driver was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
“It is believed that three vehicles drove through black ice on the Western Fwy resulting in several vehicles colliding about 6.10am,” a spokesman said.

Ambulance Victoria confirmed four people had been assessed by paramedics.
“The air ambulance is on scene and one patient will be flown to Melbourne,” a spokeswoman said.
“The others are expected to be transported by road to Ballarat Base Hospital with minor injuries.”
Paramedics remained at the scene of the incident assisting patients just before 8am.
A CFA spokeswoman confirmed firefighters attended the scene but were not required to assist.
All westbound lanes of the Western Fwy between Gordon and Wallace have now reopened, with emergency services successfully clearing the roadway.
VicTraffic confirmed the freeway was once again open to motorists just after 8.30am.
“Thanks for your patience as emergency services worked to safely clear all vehicles from the freeway,” VicTraffic wrote on X.
