Two men out on bail have been slapped with more than a dozen charges after allegedly using a stolen car to chase police in the remote Northern Territory.
Video of the incident has emerged allegedly showing the pair in a flat-bed Toyota LandCruiser chasing an NT Police car down a dirt road in the remote West Daly community Palumpa, at one point rear-ending the fleeing car.
It was alleged that the NSW registered ute, along with a boat trailer, were stolen from the Daly River boat ramp while the owner was fishing between 9am and 3.15pm on April 4.
Police spotted the car in Palumpa and Wadeye, but said in a media release that “a pursuit was not initiated due to safety concerns”.
It was not until Saturday, April 12, that local officers, along with members from the Fugitive Taskforce, were able to catch the stolen ute just outside of Wadeye, on Port Keats Rd.
Two men aged 19 and 21 were arrested without incident and have been charged with a raft of dangerous driving and violent offences.
The teen has been accused of 14 alleged offences, including assaulting a member of the police force, going armed in public, property damage, driving without L-plates, and breach of bail.
The 21-year-old faces 12 charges, including assaulting a member of the police force, dangerous driving, recklessly endangering serious harm, driving unlicensed, and breach of bail.
Both are in custody and will face the Darwin Local Court later this month.
