Charges laid on two boys, 14 and 15, after alleged Casuarina bus stop assault

A string of charges have been laid against two youths after an alleged assault at Casuarina bus stop left two people in hospital. Here’s what Serious Crime detectives are now calling for.

Police have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to an alleged assault involving two teens and an edged weapon.

It comes after the boys, aged 14 and 15, were charged with a total of 16 offences.

Just before 5.30pm on Friday, police received reports of an incident at the Casuarina bus interchange where the 14-year-old allegedly assaulted the another youth with an edged weapon.

Witnesses intervened and restrained the boy before a second teenager allegedly assaulted a witness with an edged weapon before both teens fled the scene.

The victims, a 15-year-old boy and a 44-year-old man were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with minor injuries.

The incident was filmed and shared on social media.

Police arrested two youths on Saturday.

The 15-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault and assault on workers, engage in violent conduct, recklessly endangering serious harm, going armed in public and aid another to escape lawful custody.

The 14-year-old is charged with assault on worker, engage in violent conduct. intend serious harm – cause any harm, aggravated assault, escape lawful custody, going armed in public and serious breach of bail.

Both are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Strike Force Trident and Serious Crime investigations remain ongoing.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any relevant information is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said.

“In particular, police would like to speak with an unidentified male, wearing a dark shirt and shorts, who may have been threatened during the incident. Please quote reference 10164632.”
