Truck driver airlifted to hospital with serious injuries

A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after he was freed from his semi-trailer which crashed on the New England Highway.

2.30PM: A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after he was freed from his semi-trailer which crashed on the New England Highway.

The man was the most seriously injured in the crash, which involved two semi-trailers and a four-wheel drive.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man was freed by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services officers and airlifted to hospital suffering potentially serious facial and leg injuries.

The spokesman said a man in his 20s also suffered a cut to the head, a woman in her 30s was treated for abdominal pain and paramedics also treated a man in his 60s complaining of nausea.

A girl was also involved in the crash but was not injured.

Three patients were transported to Stanthorpe Hospital and one to Warwick Hospital.

The truck driver was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital.

All were in a stable condition.

A police spokeswoman confirmed one truck had hit another at road works.

1.17PM: A rescue helicopter has been called to airlift a man from the scene of a three-vehicle crash on the New England Highway. 

Emergency services were called to the highway, near the intersection of Coochie Rd, about 12.30pm. 

Two semi-trailers and a car were involved in the collision which left one male driver trapped. 

Crews are working to free the man from his semi-trailer. He is reportedly conscious and alert but has suffered severe injuries. 

The rescue helicopter is preparing to land at the crash scene. 

People from the other vehicles have also been injured and are being treated by paramedics. 

The road is blocked in both directions.

BREAKING 12.40PM: One person is reportedly trapped after three vehicles collided at road works on a major highway south of Toowoomba.

According to initial reports, two semi-trailers and one vehicle were involved in the crash on the New England Highway, 15km south of Warwick near the intersection of Coochie Rd about 12.30pm.

The two semi-trailers reportedly collided in road works. One of the trucks is understood to have crashed into a gully with a person trapped inside. The trapped male driver is conscious. 

Emergency services are currently on scene.
