A COUPLE police claim to be Toowoomba's Bonnie and Clyde have been committed to stand trial over an incident in which a police officer was allegedly dragged alongside a stolen vehicle.
Beau Tyson Robbins, 23, and his co-accused fiancée Candace Amy Derksen, 22, appeared in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday charged with more than 70 crimes.
The pair were committed to stand trial in the Toowoomba District Court on charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, serious assault of police, and acts intended to resist arrest.
Police claim Detective Sergeant Luke Peachey was dragged alongside their car in Barry St on March 13.
Det Sgt Peachey tried to restrain the driver through a car window and it will be alleged the driver became aggressive and a struggle ensued.
Police said a passenger then turned on the ignition, allowing the driver to accelerate away.
Det Sgt Peachey was unable to remove himself from the car and was dragged a short distance before the vehicle swerved, causing him to collide with several wheelie bins and fall to the ground.
He was treated at the scene for cuts, abrasions and bruising to his upper body.
Police claim the couple was on the run from police after committing a string of cash register robberies.
Robbins was also committed to stand trial for charges of stealing Det Sgt Peachey's handcuffs and watch, and a second charge of serious assault of police.
Their remaining offences were adjourned to November 1.
The pair was remanded in custody.
