TRC ELECTION: Leaders revealed after 276k votes counted

NEW numbers from Toowoomba counting station has revealed the current leaders in the council election race, after more than 276,000 votes were tallied.

Councillor results:

NEW numbers from Toowoomba counting station has revealed the current leaders in the council election race, after more than 276,000 votes were tallied.

The figures, obtained by The Chronicle at the Railway Goods Shed this morning, are larger than the small numbers displayed on the Electoral Commission of Queensland website.

Currently, the website still only displays 6.26 per cent of the vote, or roughly 72,000.

Former journalist and editor Rebecca Vonhoff remains in the lead with 16,556 votes, with incumbent Cr Geoff McDonald narrowly trailing on 16,152 votes.

Deputy Mayor Carol Taylor (15,544), Cr Megan O'Hara Sullivan (15,375) and Cr James O'Shea (14,937) make up the top five.

The biggest improver from yesterday's progress was former state politician Kerry Shine, who has shot up into sixth position with 14,699 votes.

He leads Crs Nancy Sommerfield (14,421) and Bill Cahill (14,300), while business owner Melissa Taylor follows with 13,108 votes.

In the battle for 10th spot, school teacher Tim McMahon (10,706) has built a commanding lead over Garry Humphries (8240), who has overtaken David Campbell (8184), Joy Mingay (8131) and Lizzie Adams (7951).

The results equate to roughly a quarter of the total votes, which has been tipped to hit nearly 1.1 million.

Early voting in Toowoomba was worth half of the current votes counted, coming in at 146,500.
