A hairdresser has shared the heartfelt moment a palliative care patient thanked her for making him look like himself again before being reunited with his wife who had already passed away.

Owner of Sip n Scissors, Amy Pearce has been cutting hair for 12 years and recently responded to a call out on social media looking for someone to cut their mum’s hair who was in Townsville’s Palliative Care Unit.

“She put a post on Facebook asking if someone would cut her mum’s hair,” the hairdresser said.

“She had quite long hair and she used to have short hair, like she used to be very routine in her haircuts every six weeks and it had been since October.”

It was during this haircut that Ms Pearce knew she wanted to help more people.

“I was like you know what? It costs nothing. It literally takes more 15 minutes and they’re in a pretty horrible way. It costs me nothing to go up and make them feel better,” she said.

“I was happy I could make her feel beautiful. It was very sad to see her in that state she was in.

Ms Pearce said the family were incredibly grateful and the woman’s daughter felt like she had her mum back.

Since then, the business owner has had many people reach out asking if she would attend to a loved one to help trim their hair, and despite kicking off her Tuesday visits to the Palliative Care Unit only recently, it was a haircut she did for a friend’s relative months ago that has stuck with her.

She shared that she was cutting the hair of an older gentleman who said all he wanted to do was get a hair cut so he could look good for his wife who was already deceased – two days later he sadly passed away.

“In a way I feel good because I’ve given him his last wish,” she said.

For those who are interested in getting touch with Ms Pearce she said the best way was to contact her Sip n Scissors Facebook page.
