A mother threatened to slice the throat of her neighbour’s baby during a drunken episode fuelled by jealousy.

Tmea Joyce Michelle Anderson appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court on Thursday after she threw a rock into a children’s bedroom because she found out their mother had been seeing her ex-partner.

Police prosecutor Peter Obermayer said in March of this year, Anderson stood outside a woman’s home and yelled violent threats at her.

The woman inside called the police and when they arrived Anderson told them she had smashed a window with a rock, which officers later found on the floor of one of the children’s bedrooms.

Two weeks later on April 4, Anderson arrived outside the woman’s home with a steak knife just past 10:30pm.

The court heard she tried to open the door of the home and threatened to “slit the throat” of the woman and her baby.

Defence lawyer Mikaila Ward said the 30-year-old made no excuse for her behaviour but said it was a result of her life spiralling after the tragic suicide of a former partner.

“(She said) her life went crazy and she turned to ice to cope,” Ms Ward said.

“In doing so, she lost everything.

Ms Ward said her time in pre-sentence custody had allowed her to “dry out” and focus on working towards reuniting with her children.

Magistrate Rhiannan Lee said Andersons’ actions were extremely concerning.

“I’ve heard that this has all come about as you are neighbours and the victim in this matter commenced a relationship of some sort with an ex-partner of yours,” she said.

“Obviously there was quite intense tension between the both of you, but the steps you’ve taken are completely unacceptable.”

“The victim was visibly upset and appeared to be very fearful.”

Magistrate Lee told Anderson she hoped her first time behind bars had been a wakeup call.

Anderson pleaded guilty to wilful damage, threatening violence, failure to appear and contravening a community service order.

She was sentenced to 10 months jail, with an immediate parole release date.

Hey 83 days spent in pre-sentence custody was declared as time served and convictions were recorded.
