A new advertising campaign offering bargain holiday deals has been launched to entice Australian and New Zealander tourists back to North Queensland following the impacts of Cyclone Kirrily last month.
Tourism and Events Queensland’s (TEQ) million dollar Unmissable Holiday Deals campaign went live this week, backed by a range of dedicated social media adverts promoting world-class experiences in Townsville and Whitsundays.
In addition to working with Australian and international journalists to publicise the campaign, TEQ is promoting Townsville’s major upcoming events including the NRL All Stars and global superstar P!nk – which will attract hordes of fans over the coming weeks.
Partnership campaigns promoting Townsville and Whitsundays holiday deals are also live on Expedia and Wotif, while Bonza has partnered with TEQ to offer cheap flights to the region.
At no cost to NQ tourism businesses, they will be able to load their own deals to feature in the campaign by visiting teq.queensland.com to obtain a campaign fact sheet.
Tourism Minister Michael Healy was keenly aware of the need to get a positive message out to attract visitors back to the state’s north.
“It’s great to have TEQ and the regional tourism organisations working together quickly to get that message out there,” Mr Healy said.
“It’s a great time to visit Townsville and North Queensland, it is lush and green with pumping waterfalls, thriving rainforest and glass-out days on the water.”
TEQ Chief Executive Patricia O’Callaghan said they moved quickly to launch the marketing campaign and dedicated advertising to highlight the wonderful experiences on offer from Townsville City, to Magnetic Island, the Whitsunday Islands and the incredible events coming up.
“We’re here in Townsville to listen to businesses today and gain further insights into marketing we can do to support them,” Ms O’Callaghan said.
“With more than 7,000 people’s jobs in Townsville supported by tourism, and one in three workers in the Whitsundays reliant on tourism, we know it’s critical to attract visitors back as soon as possible.”
The Unmissable Holiday Deals campaign will wrap up on March 31.
