After three years in the top job, Charters Towers Regional Council CEO Martin Drydale is stepping down.
Mr Drydale first appeared in the gold rush city in 2022 after a career spent working at Noosa Shire Council and within UK local government.
Mr Drydale started at the council in 2022 as the interim director of corporate and community services, but very quickly found himself shuffled up to chief executive officer when former CEO Aaron Johansson made his exit after five years.
Mayor Liz Schmidt praised Mr Drydale’s ‘positivity’ over the last three years.
“He has had a positive influence over workplace culture, enhancing the work-life balance that has been so vocally acknowledged and appreciated by Council staff,” Mayor Schmidt said.
“I would like to personally thank Martin for the smooth transition of the 2024/2028 Council.”
Mr Drydale will remain in the job for some time as Council begins the recruitment process for his replacement.
Mr Drydale said that stepping down was a carefully considered decision and, after thoughtful reflection, he realised it was the right time to embark on the next chapter of his life.
“It has been an honour to lead this incredible organisation, and I want to thank the staff and leadership teams for their unwavering support,” Mr Drydale said.
“The passion and dedication of the people working within this organisation are what make it truly special.”
