Police gear up for Pink’s back to back concerts in Townsville

With Pink’s highly anticipated back to back concerts just around the corner, Townsville police are leaving nothing to chance to ensure its a safe and enjoyable experience for thousands.

From meticulous risk management to braving the elements of large crowds, children, alcohol, and weather impacts, every aspect is being carefully considered and planned for.

Months of meticulous planning have been invested in preparing for the influx of fans who will flood through the gates of Queensland Country Bank Stadium on March 22 and 23 for the popstar’s back-to-back shows.

For Townsville Station Officer in Charge Todd Noble and his team, every conceivable contingency, from a lost wallet to the unthinkable spectre of a terrorism event, has been meticulously mapped out.

“Community safety is our number one priority,” Senior Sergeant Noble emphasised.

“We want people to come to events like this and enjoy themselves without incident.”

To ensure the smooth operation of the event, the staffing is being handled through a ‘special services’ system, with the event organiser covering the costs for policing resources.

This allocation of resources not only guarantees the adequate management of the event but also ensures that the police’s regular duties in and around Townsville remain uninterrupted.

In the scorching Townsville heat, concertgoers are being urged to stay hydrated while queuing and waiting for the show to begin.

“It’s March, and it’s still hot up here, so make sure to drink enough water,” Senior Sergeant Noble cautioned.

“Don’t overindulge in alcohol. You don’t want to spend all this money on a great ticket, to see a great show and not remember it or be a little too drunk and cause a scene.”

“We want everyone to enjoy the show.”

Police will be working closely with security and stadium management to swiftly address any misconduct or unruly behaviour.

Post-concert, concertgoers are urged to exercise caution and patience as they make their way out of the stadium.

“There will be a lot of people leaving the stadium at one time, so please be patient and careful,” Senior Sergeant Noble said.

As part of pre-planning, attendees are encouraged to arrange their travel to and from the stadium in advance. For those being picked up, establishing designated meeting areas away from the stadium will help ensure smooth traffic flow and alleviate congestion.
