Two rappers have opened their own music studio to uncover the musical talent buried in North Queensland.

Peak Productions is the culmination of the hard work put in by Blake Hamilton and Dylan Hoffman, or better known on stage as Luther and Baggzy.

The pair met in year nine at William Ross High School and instantly bonded over their love for music; six months ago they decided to go all in on their creative dreams after years of inspiration from hip hop idols such as Chillinit and Brisbane artist Nerve.

But after struggling to find an avenue to pursue their passion in North Queensland, they decided to be the pioneers of production in Townsville to help give other artists a leg up and provide opportunities to young kids looking for a creative avenue.

“I grew up here, I’ve been here my whole life and there’s nothing for the youth here,” Mr Hamilton said.

“I got into some trouble as a kid … I never thought we would be able to do something like this, I was just another one of those street kids that was out there doing dumb sh-t.”

“Now we’ve figured out that we actually have a passion for something and we actually have some skills.”

A year ago neither of them had any knowledge of music production, videography or graphic design, but the duo have invested every spare minute they had available in between their day jobs on learning and developing industry skills.

“We are just driven to learn,” Mr Hoffman said.

“If you put the time in to learn it, it’s not that hard but if you don’t have full motivation you’re definitely going to run into roadblocks.”

They both share big dreams to build North Queensland music culture and put their city on the map to prove to Australia that there’s more to Townsville than what’s often thought.

“Music is passionate, it’s one of the most passionate things, so shooting these videos and helping these artists and watching their faces at the end is just amazing,” Mr Hamilton said.

“Who was going to do it if we didn’t, there’s so much talent right there that could have been wasted.”

“Townsville is under that wrap of a working man’s town and we are trying to change that and give these people a chance to be creative.”

They are working on dropping their own music soon and after taking their first steps onto the stage recently at Otherwise Bar’s Freshly Squeezed local music event, they are more driven than ever.

“It was really cool. They put a couple of Townsville artists on there so it was good. It was a big eye opener to what we can really do,” Mr Hamilton said.
