Man hospitalised after being cut free from wreck caused by suspected stolen car

The driver of a suspected stolen SUV has fled the scene of a crash in Rosslea which resulted in a motorist needing to be cut free. Find out the latest.

The driver of an alleged stolen car has fled the scene of a crash in Townsville which left an injured motorist trapped and needing to be cut free by a crew of firefighters.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said a two vehicle crash was reported at the intersection of Bowen Rd and Hodel St, Rosslea on Friday at 5.55pm.

She said a suspected stolen SUV crashed into a Toyota Yaris before its occupants fled the scene.

Multiple emergency crews worked to free a 30-year-old male driver from the grey Yaris, which suffered significant damage to its front end.

Crowds of concerned onlookers gathered to watch as the man was eventually freed and loaded onto a stretcher for transport to Townsville University Hospital.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the victim suffered a leg injury but was in a stable condition.

Traffic was able to continue flowing in both directions of Bowen Rd.

Police are yet to capture any suspects and their investigation is ongoing.
