The Hilltop Hoods were here for the peeps and the freaks in the front row when their hit The Nosebleed Section was named the second best Australian song ever made.

The iconic Aussie act were preparing to take the stage for One Street One Day when Triple J revealed the hip hop track had made it into the top five alongside INXS’ Never Tear Us Apart (number 1) and The Veronicas’ Untouched (number 3).

In an Instagram story before the announcement was made, Suffa wrote that he was “in Townsville hoping that Nosebleed charts low enough that people say that it should have been higher, and not high enough that people want to kill us”.

The band shared it again, saying “this aged like milk”.

Their hit Cosby Sweater came in at number 64.

One Street One Day on Saturday was a huge hit with the locals with thousands excited to see some of Australia’s biggest names in music, including Meg Mac, the DMAs and In Hearts Wake.

Townsville Enterprise CEO Claudia Brumme-Smith said the festival had become a celebration of outstanding talent, which rang true when The Nosebleed Section was given the gong in the Triple J countdown.

“It was incredible to have the Hilltop Hoods perform here on the very night they were named second in the country in the Triple J Hottest 100,” she said.

“Staging the Australia’s inaugural One Street One Day festival builds on our growing reputation as the Events Capital of the North and showcases our commitment to creating authentic events in iconic locations.”

Ms Brumme-Smith said the festival crowd was “fantastic”, with Central Park shining as an “iconic event location”.

“We listened to the community’s call for more live music and festival experiences — and this event was a proud moment in delivering just that,” she said.

“It was also fantastic to see local artists like Tropical Low and Winefred light up the stage — a true celebration of homegrown talent sharing the spotlight with some of Australia’s biggest names.”

Russell Temple of SRO Events, the promoter who organised the festival alongside TEL, said the artists had an amazing time performing in Townsville.

“It’s a place that clearly knows how to celebrate live music,” he said.

SRO worked with TEL’s Chelsea Cavanah and Reagan Anderson from NQ Licensed Events for the festival.

“The teams from Townsville that managed staging, production, merchandise, bars, food vans and cleaning were just awesome and if there is any better security operating in Australia I haven’t seen them,” Mr Temple said.

“We hope the people from Townsville enjoyed One Street One Day!”
