Five men to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court charged with multiple domestic violence offences

Townsville police say violent behaviour in families and homes will not be tolerated as multiple men charged in ongoing investigation into serious domestic violence offences.

Five men have been charged with serious domestic violence offences including rape and strangulation as part of multiple ongoing criminal investigations as police reveal they are sending a message to perpetrators.

All five men are expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court with Domestic, Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant Adam Golding saying the use of violence in relationship was a choice made by an individual.

“Police want to send a clear message that violent behaviour in families and homes will not be tolerated,” Det Snr Sgt Golding said.

“Family violence has an enormous detrimental impact on our community regardless of age, cultural background, religion, socio economic status or sexuality.

“Evidence tells us that anyone can be a victim of family violence however, women and children are most at risk of serious injury or death.

“Holding perpetrators accountable for their actions is key to preventing domestic violence – and the QPS takes this role very seriously.”

One man, a 33 year old, was charged with multiple domestic violence offences including choking, assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault and threatening violence.

A 53-year-old man was charged with four counts of rape (all domestic violence offences).

Another man, 27, is facing 23 contravention of a domestic violence order charges, and one charge of stalking (domestic violence offences).

A 43-year-old man was charged with the domestic violence offences of strangulation, assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault.

A 29-year-old man was charged with 33 offences including assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault and contravene a domestic violence order, rape and choking, threatening violence, serious animal cruelty, sexual assault and wilful damage – all domestic violence-related charges.
