A total of four people have been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle accident in North Ward.
Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed that paramedics and Queensland Fire Department crews were called to the accident on the corner of Gregory and Mitchell streets at 11.39am on Tuesday.
A QAS spokeswoman said one the vehicles rolled.
Queensland Police Service said it was believed that the male driver of one of the vehicles may have “passed out” during a medical episode.
A QPS spokeswoman said the driver was not physically injured in the incident and was transported to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition for observation.
She said the man’s two young daughters who were also in the vehicle at the time of the accident were not physically harmed.
Both girls were also taken to hospital with their father.
QAS said the driver of the second vehicle, believed to be a man in his 50s, was also taken to hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.
QPS said there are no reports that any of the vehicles involved were stolen.
“Investigations are underway and any witnesses, including those with dashcam or CCTV are urged to contact police.”
EARLIER
An adult and four juveniles were arrested after an allegedly stolen car crashed into a power pole the Burdekin, police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.
Queensland Police Service confirmed that they were called to Sandsdown Street in Alva Beach following reports a Hyundai hatchback had crashed into an electricity pole about 5.30am.
A QPS spokeswoman said as many as eight people were seen fleeing the accident on foot.
“The vehicle was reported stolen from a Home Hill address yesterday morning, January 20,” she said.
“One adult and four teenagers have been taken into custody following their arrest at an Alva Beach caravan park.”
EARLIER
One person is in hospital after a vehicle hit a crash barrier on the Bruce Highway this morning, sending bits of concrete across the road and debris flying through the windscreen of the car behind.
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) said they were called out to the car crash at 7.35am on Tuesday morning, January 21.
“One car has crashed and hit a guard rail, and some of the debris has flown off that vehicle and hit the car behind it,” a spokesperson said.
“It seems an unsecured load has also come off the ute.”
The crash occurred on the Bruce Hwy near the Stuart dump and brought the morning traffic rush to a standstill, closing down both lanes of traffic for close to an hour (7.40am to 8.30am).
“One lane was severely blocked and lots of traffic was backed up,” a QFD spokesperson said.
“The highway is now open.”
Paramedics were also on the scene, describing the car crash as a “two-vehicle incident near the rail flyover”.
The Queensland Ambulance Service said their paramedics assessed three occupants who all got out of their cars safely and transported one person to hospital in a stable condition.
The Queensland Police Service said their officers reported the car involved a ute that hit a concrete guard rail, causing bits of concrete and debris from the ute’s tray to go across the road and fly through the windscreen of the car travelling behind it.
Coolbie - single-vehicle crash
Also occurring this morning was a 3.37am crash on the Bruce Hwy between Ingham and Cardwell at Coolbie.
One stable male patient in his 50s with minor injuries has been transported to Ingham hospital.
