A woman who was sentenced last year for serious drug trafficking returned to court for breaching her suspended sentence by way of committing further drug offences.
Caidee Jade Ogston-Hughes appeared in Townsville Supreme Court on Monday morning, before the same judge that sentenced her to her original offending of trafficking marijuana and methamphetamine the year prior.
Defence barrister Harvey Walters told the court Justice David North had already heard of the tragedy the 28-year-old suffered by losing her child, which was outlined when the woman was sentenced for drug trafficking of more than $30,000 to over 50 customers.
Prosecution officer Ashleigh Moss said Ogston-Hughes breached her suspended sentence when she was fined $600 for possessing methamphetamine and committing trespass on a property she wasn’t allowed on earlier this year.
Additionally, the crown said the woman was fined a further $1000 for being found with a taser in a car, a set of digital scales and a glass pipe.
“They are not as serious as the original offences but it shows continuous involvement in dangerous drugs,” Ms Moss said.
“It demonstrates a lack of regard for court orders and lack of commitment to rehabilitate.”
Justice North agreed while the offences weren’t as serious they indicated she had not taken advantage of being in the community.
Ogston-Hughes pleaded guilty to breaching a suspended sentence.
She was re-sentenced to four months jail, with her suspended sentence activated and given an immediate parole release date. His Honour declared 426 days as pre-sentence custody as time served.
