The Ronald McDonald Family Room in Townsville, which provides a living space for rural families with a child in hospital, has received an influx of financial support from Bravus Mining.
The family room is located in the Townsville University Hospital and includes a fully-stocked kitchen, two sleeping rooms and a laundry, that can be used free of charge to families staying by the bedside of a sick child.
Ronald McDonald House Charity estimates 1500 out-of-town families use the room every year.
Bravus Mining has donated $10,000 to the family room,
“Difficult circumstances are made all that much tougher when you’re a long way from the comforts of home,” Bravus Mining’s Kate Campbell said.
“In regional Queensland, that ‘long way’ can mean hundreds and hundreds of kilometres, and that’s why we think it’s so important to support the service the Ronald McDonald Family Room provides.”
The money was allocated as part of Bravus Mining’s community grant program.
Bravus operates the Carmichael coal mine near Belyando.
