Exquisite and tasty handmade chocolate treats will put a special smile on many Townsville faces this Easter.
North Ward business Coffee Works has an abundance of handmade Easter eggs and other chocolate goodies on offer during the Easter long weekend.
Employee Rhiannon Mitchard said all the chocolate treats were individually handcrafted.
“They are made up in Mareeba, that is where our main store is, it is a locally owned business still owned by the original owners who started 30 years ago,” she said.
“Each one (egg) is absolutely individual and we have some very talented chocolatiers – if you have a look at all the different designs.”
Ms Mitchard said the store has regular customers who came back each Easter for their special eggs, or chickens or bunnies.
“Some come looking for chickens in particular which is a popular one for some of the regulars,” she said.
“We also did have giant 1.2kg eggs but we sold the last one yesterday.”
She said the North Ward store in Gregory Street was open every day over Easter.
“So people can come in and buy Easter eggs right up to the last minute.”
Townsville will also be awash with a bounty of prawns and other seafood this Easter.
Ingham Road Seafood owner Mark Partland said apart from Christmas, Easter was his busiest time of year, but promises there would be plenty of locally sourced seafood for everyone.
“It’s a busy time of year, plenty of people around, good weather and plenty of local seafood,” Mr Partland said. “Prawns and bugs are popular up in North Queensland but there will also be plenty of fish available over Easter.
“We are stocked up in prawns with tigers, kings, and some cooked mix and then we have greens.”
He said prices would not increase over the Easter period.
“The whole of the north is cheap for seafood compared with to Brisbane and down south so our prices won’t go up, they were this price last week, and they were this price three weeks ago.
“The most popular prawn at the moment would be the Tigers and they are selling for $41.90kg.
“There is plenty of seafood, we will be busy but we won’t run out.
“We support the local industry and it’s important the community supports local product.”
The business is open from 7am to 7pm today, 6am-3pm Friday, 9am-3pm Saturday, 9am-2pm Sunday and 10am-2pm on Monday.
